Punk’d

This post is mostly for Hannah, a little bit for Sean, and it’s very weird to be writing again on here.  I got this Tshirt on sale for 5 dollars at the Whitney Museum in Manhattan.  It’s American Apparel’s Summer Shirt in XL.  I don’t know what the photo is but I love it.  So I stuck some safety pins in it, as you should do with all things you love.

Mama says it’s a throwback and I look like Sid Vicious.

this is my model face:

Blue Valentine

this movie’s rating was changed from NC-17 to R but before that happened, it took me about 12 seconds to realize i wouldn’t have to fudge my way into the theatre anymore. the weirdness around growing up isn’t from actually growing up, it’s the pace, the fact that as i drive down the road, behind the wheel, i can remember so distinctly the pride of being allowed to sit in the front seat next to my mom.

The Tallest Man On Earth Steals My Heart Again

Never has a mustache been more okay with me. This song (Where Do My Bluebird Fly–that is not a typo) never fails, not just to the first time I heard it–even the first time I heard it it moved me god knows where.

I don’t have time for this post.

But I feel bad. This blog is turning into that collage you cut everything out for and then never actually make. It sucks. So here’s a minor update.

What am I into these days? Flannels and form-fitting skirts together. Chunky knit tights. Anything easy, cozy, and soft. Slightly “hardcore” but feminine wrist accessories.

It’s bright, I know. It’s the colorful one–I already have light and dark.

The pearl/silver is from my grandmother as a gift. The cuff has a bit of a story–my parents ended up meeting the guy who makes them at a store while looking at slightly larger heavier duty ones. They got him to make a custom one with a softer collage-y look with all the different studs. It fits my wrist perfectly, which is beyond cool.

Other than that?

It finally snowed.

In October, a galavant around Ottawa..

What else. I’m working my way through On the Road at the moment. My facebook got hacked by my editors on the newspaper and I proclaimed myself a bonafide hipster…and I was okay with that. My flannel, after all, is from Urban Outfitters (?).

The snow is back up on my page! WOot.

Since my last post, I guess a lot of things haven’t changed. But then again a lot of things are different.

Hello October

We’ve been awaiting your arrival.

I love fall. I walked out last night and it smelled like october and I was so happy.

And I went apple picking for the first time today! I think apple picking might be the best thing a teenager could ever do, because teenagers are all about balancing the older-ness and the younger-ness and when you go apple picking, somehow they come into balance perfectly by themselves. There is no feeling I have ever experienced that is even slightly comparable to that of stick your nose onto the cloudy surface of a fresh-picked, un-shined apple and inhaling something like birth and death and giddiness and melancholy all wrapped up in a sweet red and green wrapper.

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Happy Cozy-Dressing!

P.S. In order to keep the post frequency going on here, I’m going to turn this into a pure inspiration blog: everything and anything that strikes my fancy will make its way onto here, hopefully hopefully.

home again home again

NOTICE:  This was written and saved WEEKS ago.  So sorry about the sort of not up to datedness…nothing interesting is happening with my clothes these days (except for MAJOR excitement for autumn) so I haven’t been posting.

So, written after France and before CTY:

As the title might imply, I have safely returned from my adventure in France.  As of yesterday.  And tomorrow I head off to my writing program for 3 weeks.  So my day has been full of laundry and repacking and list making and all of that.  But in the middle of it all I got to have lunch with my mother downtown and then we ran some errands.

When i came downstairs, mom commented that I looked very French.  And I see what she means…I think that just being surrounded by the women there has an effect on one’s aesthetic…

AND BACK TO REAL TIME: As soon as I have some fun fall outfits set up I will try to load them on, but it is going to be one hell of a year, so it will probably be sporadic. Sorry.

france ’10: internship: cupcakes

Cupcake Bakeshop Blog.  It is saving my life at work today.  My usual book (A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson–pretty damn hilarious writer, but also very filled with facts and numbers and stats about forests, which are interesting for maybe a page), sniper computer games, and facebook stalking just didn’t hold the charm they did for the past two weeks…

I started in March, 2005 and have been working my way forwards in time all afternoon.  Those lucky enough to have devoured the cupcakes my mother occassionally (but with growing frequency) makes for the casts of plays I am in, and occassionally just for whoever is sitting around where I am hanging out at the time, who are on top of that lucky enough to be classified into one of those categories again next year and the year after that will possibly (depending on my bargaining abilities) be at some point indulging in some of these varieties:

  • cupcakes in ice cream cones (link)
  • lavender citrus cupcakes (link)
  • samoas cupcakes (link)
  • basil cream and mint cream filled cupcakes with rasberry mousse frosting–keep an open mind (link)

My mouth is watering and I could go on and on, but I’m currently clicking through April of 2007 and most recent is April of 2010.  So feast your eyes on those, click around a little more (the photography and recipes get lovelier as you get closer to the current date) and I’ll let you know if I find any other particular beauties.

France ’10

For the next three weeks, I will be interning in an office in France. That means that even though school is out, I still won’t be posting any photos. However, I have a small list of things I am going to try to find while I am here.

What’s interesting about France is that it isnt so much that we dont have the same kinds of clothing (especially considering certain foreign brands that have gotten over here bless you H&M and target Go International designers), but that many very very covetable designs are in the same place at the same time. You don’t have to go digging through every simple, boring, or completely horrifying tshirt to find that one glorious top (*cough* Forever21). So while I am here, here is what I will be looking for:

  • accessories:  even at the equivalent of walmart here, there are scarves you couldn’t find in america for under 20 bucks to be sure if not more than that
  • lotion:  my host lother last year randomly picked up some cheap lotion on sale when I needed some.  It was L’oreal but cannot be bought in America.  My real mother looked for it too when she came but couldnt find any.  But again, at the =walmart,  I found it and bought two bottles.  I dont know what it is about this stuff but it makes my legs happier than anything else I have ever tried.
  • those pants with the baggy crotch:  such an appealing title, right?  I highly highly doubt I will be able to find a pair of these that flatter, but hell its worth a try.  If I can find them, Ill just try them on and try not to fall in love with the concept even though the image in the mirror is far less than satisfactory.
  • cheap perfume that smells amazing:  even the laundry detergent here smells better than at home.  Something about France: the generic smells are just superior.  Who knows why.
  • Jewelry: that goes along with accessories.

I’ll let you know if I find anything and if I do pictures will go up when I get back.  Which will be in mid August:  I’ll be in this city with the office until the end of June, then in Paris for a few days, then babysitting in Burgundy for 2 weeks, then I go home for one day and start camp the next.  Love my busy life (?).

Happy summering!

recap

It’s time to be embarrassed by the infrequency of one’s posting when friends come up to you after class asking why you haven’t posted in a while. So, I apologize for leaving you hanging for almost 2 months.

I have taken very few photos recently (although there have been some decent outfits–nothing particularly interesting) and some new purchases which will eventually filter onto here in posts. I finally gave into buying a pair of heart sunglasses. However, I went with white instead of red. Felt more summery to me.

First, in honor of the anniversary of Woodstock (sort of–that’s what they called it even though Woodstock was actually in August), school gave us a dress down day if we wore tie-dye. Of course, I managed to dress up without tie-dye and still was in class dress. Figures. Janis Joplin was my inspiration. I wore I think 34 pieces of jewelry (although that stat isn’t totally accurate because I counted all of the bangles and both earrings). That night, the faculty band and guest performers sang songs that had been performed at woodstock. It was quite a good time.

mum caught me eating a corn muffin.
dress: Target; vest: digging through somebody else’s goodwill bag; jewelry: heaven only knows; boots: Blowfish brand; sunglasses: stolen from my mother’s drawer

A while later, this print mixer emerged.

Of course, I had a boring black dress on under it, but those prints were enough for me that morning..

coat: Proenza Schouler for Target; scarf: Liberty of London for Target; tights: Hue; boots; Merrell; dress: bought it in France

first day back

As you may have gathered from my previous post, I am totally ready to dive headlong into spring clothes. However, I want to ease out of my black and neutral wardrobe so I don’t get sick of it quickly. So here we have a healthy balance…

shirt: Target; dress: Derek Heart from a private store in town; tights: Hue; shoes: Aerosoles; cardigan: J. Crew

and some goodies:

a ring from Urban Outfitters and a temporary tattoo from a tutoring center in San Francisco that works out of a retail space and therefore must have some sort of storefront, so they turned it into this totally insane pirate themed store. You can buy spoons, buckles, patches, cures for various ship diseases and all that.

aaand the ring. saw this the other day and had to have it..

The nailpolish is Chanel Particuliere.
